Police said they shot and killed the Palestinian driver of a construction vehicle after it overturned a passenger bus, killing a pedestrian and injuring the bus driver. There were no passengers on the bus during the incident, which appeared to be a backlash against Israel's ground operation in Gaza. Israel launched a ground operation in Gaza on July 17, after a 10-day campaign of airstrikes had failed to halt relentless Hamas rocket fire on Israeli cities.
