Satyanarayan Vrat or Puja is one of the most popular and significant Hindu religious traditions. It is dedicated to the worship of Lord Satya Narayana, another name of Lord Vishnu. This puja and vrat is very famous in the parts of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa and Bengal.

Literal Meaning

In Sanskrit, the word Satya means truth and Naryana means the Highest form of being. Thus, worshipping Lord Satyanarayan and observing Satyanarayana Vrat is about seeking ultimate truth or divine.

Religious Significance

According to Skanda Purana, a Hindu sage and great devotee of Lord Vishnu, Narada asked Lord Vishnu the way to end all the miseries of the human beings. In response to the question, Lord Vishnu said that to get rid of all the griefs and sins, one should worship Lord Satyanarayana. In Kaliyuga, by worshipping and observing Satyanarayana fast, any individual may receive happiness and attain ultimate truth or Moksha.

Importance of Observing Satyanarayan Vrat

  • Satyanarayan Vrat is the way to get rid of illness, miseres, poverty and other reasons of grief.
  • Lord Satyanarayan is the symbol of the breakage from the cycle of life. Observing Satyanarayan Vrat allows a devotee to break the worldly ties and get spiritual enlightenment.
  • This Vrat can be observed any day but it is considered most auspicious on the full moon day that is on Purnima of each month. Thus, you receive the benefits of Purnima Vrat also.
  • Like Ekadashi Vrat, this Vrat offers forgiveness for all your sins. In this, fasting is done till the Puja or devotee offers Prasadam to Lord Satyanarayan.
  • The Satyanarayan Puja and Vrat helps devotees to achieve their desired goals.
  • It brings good luck and prosperity and thus is observed after marriage, house-warming ceremonies, starting new ventures, naming children or performing any auspicious work.
  • It blesses the devotee with success, prosperity and knowledge.
  • Lord Vishnu gives relief from sickness if one observes the Satyanaryan vrat or fast with complete devotion.
