September Birthstone Guide

The Lapis Lazuli gemstone is one of the richest coloured gemstones you can findThe name comes from the Latin word ‘lapis’ meaning ‘stone’ and the Persian word 'lazhward' meaning ‘blue’.  Traditionally it has always been believed to encourage wisdom and an ability to calm the mind and the senses.

Lapis Lazuli

Lapis Lazuli | Did you know?

In ancient Egypt, the gemstone was used for both jewellery and cosmetics, most famously for royal burial sites. It is even believed that Michelangelo used Lapis Lazuli in powder form to create bright blue hues in the frescoes in his Sistine Chapel - what a claim to fame for this fabulous gemstone.

Lapis Lazuli | Navy Blue

Found in many corners of the globe including Afghanistan, Argentina and Italy, Lapis Lazuli is quite the intrepid traveller. Not only is the gemstone dripping in historical facts, it's ability to change colour with movement and lighting is what makes it so special. The gold flecks on the surface of this mesmerising navy blue stone enhance the beauty and what we particularly love, is that every stone is completely unique. Combined with its mystical powers, makes for the ultimate jewellery companion.
