Irish Design Student Produces Concept Designs for Scotish Notes
2016-10-01 Sat
An Irish student named Amy Dunne from the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in Dundee came up with some beautiful banknote designs for her personal project on Scottish banknotes. She used a combination of traditional hand-drawn pencil illustrations and deft graphic elements. The designs portray animals that are commonly found in Scotland on the obverse like wildcats, stags and unicorns with the animals’ size increasing with denomination. The reverse depicts some famous areas in Scotland. She was inspired by some banknote designs online and took this up as a project to build her portfolio.
There have been many discussions regarding independence in the country and she took this opportunity to showcase her talent and design possible illustrations that could appear on a national Scottish currency.
Saturated colours and clean graphics are used along with the traditional pencil drawings of the animals to give the designs a contemporary feel.
The designer says that it is a personal project and she has no intentions to get them produced as official currency notes.
