British Airways attendants call off Christmas strike

British Airways flight attendants have called of a strike planned for Christmas Day and Dec. 26.

British Airways CEO Alex Cruz had said earlier this week the carrier had a contingency plan for the strike and expected to operate flights as normal. But it appears that will no longer be needed.

Unite, the union that represents the cabin crew, called off the strike, citing progress in negotiations with management.

"We now have a new offer from the company which we will now put to our members,” Unite general secretary Len McCluskey said in a statement to The Herald newspaper of Scotland. "The two-day strike over Christmas and Boxing Day is now suspended. It will be for our members now to decide if BA has done enough to meet their concerns.”

"We welcome the announcement from Unite that it has called off the strikes scheduled for Christmas Day and Boxing Day,” British Airways added in its own statement to the newspaper.
