CNN  —

One person is missing after a pair of avalanches near a highway exit in northwest Washington state, authorities said Saturday.

Both avalanches struck in the vicinity of Interstate 90, said King County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kate Larson. Initial reports said three people were missing.

Heavy snow fell in the Cascade Mountains and the avalanches hit near Snoqualmie Pass, one on Granite Mountain and the other on Red Mountain near the Alpental ski area, CNN affiliate KOMO said.
