Businesses all over the world need to be able to expand and shrink as the economy and their profits demand. The needs of their clientele will expand and shrink, so a good company will follow these patterns in order to stay afloat. Companies which are inflexible in this regard tend to go under or to miss out on a lot of good business. Companies that expand excessively, though, sometimes collapse under their own weight. Similarly, a company that is constantly shrinking is not viable in the long term.
