Australia Shares Down 1.5% as China Economic Data Disappoint
The Australian share market fell after economic data out of China missed expectations, adding to the pressure from a slump in commodity prices that followed the release of disappointing U.S. retail sales and consumer confidence data on Friday.

China's economy grew 7.7% in the March quarter from a year earlier, short of the 8% rise the market was expecting. Industrial production growth of 8.9% fell short of the expected 10% rise, and fixed-assets investment rose 20.9%, versus an expected 21.3% rise.
